Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) — If approved by the state legislature, non-smoking medical marijuana could occur in Kansas this year. But one Central Kansas family we talked to says he believes that medical marijuana can be of great help to their families and many others.

We first introduced Klugs in 2015. Their son Owen Dravet syndrome, Severe epilepsy. “In the worst case, he had more than 250 seizures in 18 hours,” explained Owen’s mother, Kylie.

Since then, Owen has been working on legitimate products made from hemp plants to help with his seizures. Haley’s hope..

“Here in a few days I’ve confirmed that his unprecedented seizures have gone to zero,” Kylie added. Kylie believes that medical marijuana will be a breakthrough for other Kansas families in a similar situation. “A step in the right direction is a victory in my eyes.”

Regarding law enforcement, Sheriff Jeff Easter of Sedgwick County went to Topeka on Wednesday to express concern to lawmakers.

“We don’t want to allow many police officers to use marijuana for medicinal purposes before answering the phone,” Easter said. “We know the fact that we don’t want to put medical marijuana in correctional facilities. You can’t believe the type of challenge you’ll face.”

He opposes some of the bill, but says he knows it can help some families.

“They saw it medically, they saw the test, and they say,” Yes, it helps their pain. ” There is no problem. “
