Corpus Christi, Texas — Canceled flights do not prevent one team from continuing the season.
Ice Rays needed to coordinate their travel plans thanks to Tropical Storm Nicholas. The team was set to fly to Minnesota on Tuesday afternoon, but the plan was changed as the storm began.
On Tuesday morning, United Airlines and Southwest Airlines canceled all flights to and from Corpus Christi International Airport for the next 24 hours.
The team staff had a backup plan to take the bus so that the team could arrive at the showcase in the event of weather.
“It means the world. This is a big showcase for us and the league. Our ownership and coaches and staff plan to back us up because there are all the schools you can think of. Stand up and mean a world where you can take us there on time and get ready to go, “said Jayden Jensen, defenseman at Ice Rays.
The team will travel 1,400 miles to Brain, Minnesota over the next two days. They will pit stop at the ice rink in Iowa on Tuesday morning to practice before the season begins.
The players said they didn’t mind the long journey and were looking forward to spending time with their teammates on the bus. They say they’ve been waiting for the normal season to start again for two years and can’t wait to get there.
