Former Charles Manson follower Patricia Krenwinkel was convicted in 1969 for participating in a murder that killed seven people.
On Thursday, the California Parole Commission found that the state’s longest-serving female prisoner was suitable for being released from prison, the Associated Press reported.
The 74-year-old woman had previously been denied parole 14 times, but was recently released in June 2017.
According to AP, Klenwinkel was heard on parole in 2016 when he repeatedly stabbed coffee heir Abigail Folger at the house of pregnant actor Sharon Tate. She also testified that she had stabbed Reno Rabianca and wrote “the death of a pig” on the wall with his blood.
The Los Angeles Times reported that following the news of the panel’s nomination, Tate’s sister Debra Tate has begun to ask Governor Gavin Newsom to ban the release of Clenwinkel.
According to CNN reports, this recommendation is being reviewed by the Legal Department of the State Parole Commission and can take up to 120 days.
After that, their decision is sent to Newsom. Newsom has 30 days to grant, revoke, or change it.
