Charlottesville, Virginia (AP) — The statue of General Robert E. Lee of the South Army in a fierce protest against Charlottesville, Virginia, melts into new public art by the African-American Heritage Center.

Andrea Douglas, Executive Director of the Center, said: “We give people the opportunity to get involved in our own stories and our own history. This project provides a roadmap for other communities to do the same.”

The Black-led Heritage Center news release also states that the “Community Engagement Process” will inform public art projects, which has already raised $ 590,000.
