Mason City, Iowa (AP) — The battle for rotten chicken carcasses in Mason City is drawing attention to the greater struggle between homeowners and farms in Iowa.
Mason City Grove Gazette reports that local authorities are not optimistic about stopping homeowners from complaining about odors from nearby farms.
Dan Breyfogle of Mason City experienced this problem directly. He says in July, two trucks deposited large amounts of cow dung and carcasses on the farm next to him.
The smell was overwhelming, and Brayfogle and his wife complained to county officials, public health officials, elected officials, and Iowa Natural Resources Department officials.
