Atlanta — A fourth child died in a house fire, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office told 11Alive on Sunday. They believe that the fifth child admitted to the hospital was released with “minimal injuries.” Their mother is currently charged with murder.
According to the sheriff’s office, at around 9:20 pm on Friday, a phone call about domestic violence and a woodwind fire arrived at the agent. They said the woman was trying to stab someone else in the house at the time of the phone call. The house was on fire at the same time.
When the agents and firefighters arrived at the house, they put out the fire and tried to rescue the people inside.
A total of seven children were in the house, two of whom were declared dead on the scene. According to the sheriff’s office, three others were taken to a local hospital due to injury, two of whom died later.
Two other children on the scene did not appear to be injured, officials said.
Neighbors told 11Alive that some children had jumped out of the windows on the second floor and ran away.
Edward Springer, who lives across the street, said the family had lived there without problems for years, “they stay on their own and the kids come out to play-(they) very good. And I’m very respectful … I don’t understand it, I don’t understand it. “
Meanwhile, the woman described on the first phone call-Darleen Blister-was on the premises and was detained. The sheriff’s office said she was currently at the Paulding County Detention Center and was charged with two malicious murders. She was not detained and the sheriff’s office said additional charges could be incurred.
The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are leading the investigation.
