Los Angeles (AP) — ABC’s “The Bachelor” and former host of its spin-off, Chris Harrison, leave the long-standing franchise.

He retired four months after defending contestant Rachel Kirkconel against criticism over a photo of the 2018 Old South Plantation-themed Yuaikai.

Harrison said, “I’m leaving the moderator of the’Bachelor’franchise. I thank him for his many contributions over the last two decades and wish him success on his new journey,” Warner Horizon and ABC Entertainment said on Tuesday. Said in a joint statement.

The producer and network did not comment further, including Harrison’s successor. His spokeswoman did not immediately respond to the request for comment.

Harrison apologized in a subsequent online statement for what he called a “mistake.” Harrison said he intended to seek sympathy for Kirk Cornell to deal with the problem, but found that he had done so by “speaking in a way that perpetuates racism.” Said.

He was suspended from the franchise before his permanent departure was confirmed. The current season of “The Bachelorette” is moderated by former cast members Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe.
