Darlington County, South Carolina (WBTW) — Several Darlington County first responder agencies have partnered with CSX Railroad Police to distribute over 1,500 toys on Sunday afternoon.

“There are some toy palettes in it,” said Sheriff James Hudson. “We have a lot and we just want to make sure everyone who wants a toy gets a toy.”

The family had the opportunity to check ambulances, fire trucks, police cars, and meet with representatives of sheriff offices, fire departments, EMS, and other agencies.

“We want to get people closer in this county and do something to show people that we still care about each other,” Hudson said. “We want to reach out and do everything we can to bring a partnership to Darlington County.”

The toys were collected by the charity First Responders Children’s Foundation and handed over to the CSX Railroad Police for distribution in partnership with other agencies.

“What the community really needs to know is that we are all here for them,” said Anna Dapson, a special agent for the CSX Railroad Police. “As police officers, firefighters, EMS, dispatches, we do our job because we want to take care of them.”

The Darlington Raceway pace car has also appeared at the event.

Gary White took a picture with Santa with her granddaughter and got a toy.

“She got a baby doll and a doctor’s kit and a toy truck. It’s really nice of all sorts,” White said. “Some of the people who come out may not have as much as others. This is a great way for them to have a little more for Christmas.”

Karl Scott, Chief of the Lamar Police Department, said attending the event was rewarding and a great way to raise awareness about emergency services.

“It’s important to see the smiles of these kids,” Scott said. “We are trying to do something good for them and at the same time show them who to come if they need help.”
