Lexington, Kentucky (LEX 18) — Many good boys and girls who missed an important holiday tradition in 2020: a visit with Santa.
However, this is 2021, the year in which the COVID-19 vaccine will be available to many Kentucky citizens and will safely rebound during a pandemic.
Therefore, within five days, Santa himself will return to Lexington.
In 2020, the cheerful old elf stayed in a safe place while bringing in the cheers of the holidays.
“We visited the kids here in Waveland, but we were inside the house, the kids were outside, and we installed the microphones where we could hear each other,” Santa said. It was. “But I was confused as to why they couldn’t get close to Santa Claus.”
The house south of Santa here at Waveland State Historic Site also felt more empty. Weddings, parties, baseball games and annual events have all been canceled or changed significantly.
The house dates back to the 1840s and was built by the Brian family. Park manager Chara Reed says the family helped the community by handing out ice during the cholera epidemic.
“I didn’t do ice for everyone this year, but I did for people,” Reed said. They included last year’s socially distant Christmas.
But now Santa is vaccinated and is ready to make another direct visit to Waveland this weekend, just five months before Christmas Eve.
“It’s free, but we just want our kids to have a real Santa experience that they didn’t get last year,” Santa said. “It’s nice to have a rather normal Christmas visit,” he said.
Christmas in July will take place this Saturday from 1 pm to 5 pm in the Waveland barn. Free.
Reed says this is one of many events that the park is excited to host when visitors begin to reappear.
“The business is booming and we hope to make up for some of the revenue we lost this year and last year,” Reed said.
“It was great, everything was great. People seem to be really interested in my tour lately and it’s always great. People ask good questions,” said Montana Sandoz, a park history interpreter and tour guide. Storm said.
From 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on August 22, this site will host a car cruise for “Friends of Waveland”.
