Cinematographer killed on New Mexico film set had ties to Upstate – Valley Stream, New York

South Carolina Spartanberg (WSPA) – According to a former professor, the cinematographer who died in an accident on a New Mexico film set attended a USC Upstate class.

Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer of the Western movie “Last,” was shot with a prop gun by actor Alec Baldwin, along with film director Joel Souza.

William Richardson, Operations Manager at ETV Upstate, said Hutchins from Ukraine is a student in advanced video production classes at USC Upstate.

According to Richardson, Hutchins was also the ETV endowment for the South Carolina intern at ETV Upstate.

“She was eager to work at the highest level in the film industry one day,” Richardson said. “She achieved that goal and was recently named one of the rising stars in the industry by American Cinematography magazine.”

The Sheriff’s Office in Santa Fe County said it was still investigating the shooting and had not been charged at this time.
