City of Tampa Celebrating 135th Birthday During Archives Awareness Week  – Tampa, Florida

The city of Tampa will celebrate its 135th anniversary during Archive Awareness Week, with exhibits and programs in the local archives from July 10th to July 16th. These programs are open to the public for free unless otherwise stated.

Archives Awareness Week was founded by the City of Tampa in 1992. This week, local archivists will meet to present their collection through exhibits and programs that convey the value of archiving in identifying, preserving, and preserving historical records.

Archives Awareness Week will be held in the second week of July to coincide with Tampa’s 15th birthday.

Archive Awareness Week Event

  • At 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 10, Henry B. Plant Museum will give a talk by Dr. Charles Maglowglow on the history of Tampa Bay Hotel Casino.
  • At 11:00 am on Monday, July 11th, JC Newman Company will host a program on its unique history. The program will be held in the cigar hand-rolling room.
  • At 3:00 pm on Monday, July 11, the city of Tampa will give a presentation featuring local historians Fred Hahns and EJ Sarkins, who discuss Tampa 100 years ago. Guests will receive a new publication, Tampa, in 1922.
  • At 5 pm on Tuesday, July 12, the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library will host a virtual program on the historic map of Sanborn. https://bit.ly/3K5ceS1
  • At 12:00 pm on Wednesday, July 13, the Tampa Bay History Center will offer a virtual program on the protection of family heirs. tampabayhistorycenter.org/events
  • At 5 pm on Wednesday, July 13, the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library will host a virtual program on past bank records. https://bit.ly/3vmtdv5
  • At 11:00 am on Thursday, July 14, the Tampa Bay History Center will feature a program entitled “A Century of SOHO: Stories and Archiveson Howard Avenue.”
  • At 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 14, the USF Library will offer a virtual program on racial relations with Governor LeRoy Collins. https://bit.ly/USFAAWEEK
  • At 3:30 pm on Thursday, July 14, Tampa City staff is C. The Bryce Andrews Junior Public Library will host a Soul Walk History Party to digitize historical black historical photographs and record oral history.
  • At 10 am on Friday, July 15th, the Tampa Bay History Center offers an Ever City Walking Tour. https://tampabayhistorycenter.org/tampa-history-walking-tours/
  • The Robert W. Sanders Senior Library will be showcasing its special collection at 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm on Friday, July 15th.
  • C. at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 16th. The Bryce Andrews Library has a program that highlights its historic Florida Sentinel Bulletin collection.
