City of Tucson to add more bike boulevards – Tucson, Arizona

Tucson, Arizona (KGUN) — The city of Tucson will add bike boulevards to several areas in the coming months. Green paths and vast signs are especially popular near the University of Arizona, but the city wants to bring it to more areas.

Project manager Colin Cheston said they are in the design phase. In other words, we are thinking about where to place each of the speed hump, sign, green lane, and pedestrian crossing.

“These are all small lowways, so we just add traffic calming and slow down the car,” he said. “The purpose is to drive the car at 15-18 mph, which reduces the difference in mileage between the speed bike and the car.”

Some neighbors think that traffic is too slow near their home, while others believe it’s a great idea. Royce Dudley, who has lived for many years, said it was important to slow down traffic, especially to protect the children in the area.

“Everything and everything for bikes and kids, I think it’s great,” she said. “I think people here will get used to it, and there are too many people beaten and killed, so the sidewalk over there would be nice.”

She said, it would be safer for fewer people to slow down the road and enjoy the family being out together.
