City worker dies after being trapped in tank at wastewater treatment plant in Ewa Beach – Honolulu, Hawaii

Honolulu (KHON2) —According to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD), city officials died after being trapped in a tank at the Honolulu Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ewa Beach on Friday, November 26.

The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) reported that the case was classified as unmanned.

The HFD said it occurred around 10 am on Friday, and federal regulations applicable to the rescue of confined spaces also deployed dangerous goods units. Firefighters got off the tank to get the stranded person back.

The patient’s care was then transferred to the Honolulu EMS at around 10:39 am and notified to the coroner’s office.

According to a city spokesperson, “Mayor Blancjardi expresses deep sympathy and condolences to the family who lost their loved ones, and the city mourns the loss of devoted city officials.”
