Clarksville-Montgomery County to use county clinics for teacher COVID-19 vaccinations – Nashville-Davidson, Tennessee

Clarksville, Tennessee (WTVF) — The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System is one of the few districts in Tennessee that allows teachers to be vaccinated.

“We believe we can overcome this and become a key part of the solution,” said the director of CMCSS Schools Mirrored House.

The state has granted permission to Montgomery County because there are multiple clinics around the area designated for county employees, including teachers. “There are five clinics we run, which is a huge advantage for our employees. I use the clinics myself,” says House.

It is unclear whether the dose goes only to the teacher or to all staff who interact with the students. The principal believes that once the clinic is up and running, everything can be distributed quickly.

“We could vaccinate more than 500 people a day,” he said.

To run the clinic, the district relies on nurses already working at the CMCSS School and employs approximately 30 students from the nearby Tennessee University of Applied Technology.

Teachers will eventually be able to sign up using electronic forms.

As the plan is in place, CMCSS is currently waiting for teachers to learn from the state when vaccines will be available.

“Chris, it’s a moving target. I was told at any time between late February and March,” House told NewsChannel 5.

Another challenge is to persuade more staff to vaccinate. The district commissioned a staff survey and only 43% said they would enroll in the COVID-19 vaccine. “As with first responders, we wouldn’t be surprised if that number increased. They were originally in our community at about 40%, and I think that number has grown slowly,” House said. Told.

At Metro Nashville Public Schools, teacher vaccinations rely on Metro Nashville Public Health. They hope to start the process by late February or early March.

Schools in Metro Nashville rely on the county health department to vaccinate teachers.

They also want to start the process by late February or early March.
