Columbia, South Carolina (WSPA) – Clemson defeated South Carolina 30-0 on Saturday with the return of the “Palmet Bowl” after a one-year hiatus.
The Tigers jumped into the lead early on with a 29-yard touchdown run by Will Shipley. Shipley was in a hurry 128 yards, at the height of the game. Clemson took the lead 17-0, and the 29-year BT Potterfield goal and the 34-yard Kobe pace touchdown closed the first half.
Clemson’s attack failed to start the second half, but Potter scored two field goals, 47 yards and 49 yards, widening the lead to 23-0. Phil Mafah cashed in with a 6-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to 30-0.
This is the third shutout of the Palmetto series since 1959 and the first shutout since 1989. Clemson has won the game cock seven times in a row.
DJ Uiagalelei went 9-19 with 99 yards and one pass cut. Zeb Norland and Jason Brown joined together to reach 19-41 at 163 yards. Brown threw two passcuts.
Clemson finishes his regular season 9-3. South Carolina ends at 6-6.
