The indictment issued by the federal grand jury in Cleveland includes 12 cases, including a plot to commit theft from a federal program, assistance and support in preparing for false tax returns, falsification of witnesses, and falsification of records throughout the federal government. Johnson is facing 15 counts.

The indictment alleges that he spent more than $ 127,000 by filing inaccurate expense reports for several years.

Cleveland’s Garnell Jamison, 61, has been charged with one conspiracy to steal a federal program. Two counts of federal program theft. Jamison worked as Johnson’s Executive Assistant in the City of Cleveland for over 20 years.

Cleveland Heights defendant John Hopkins, 57, has been charged with one conspiracy to steal a federal program and three charges of theft of a federal program. Hopkins was Executive Director of Backeye Shaker Square Development Corporation.

Robert Fitzpatrick worked in the recreation department of the city of Cleveland. Fitzpatrick was charged with an information bill about his role in the plan and was found guilty on February 8, 2021.

“The allegations in today’s indictment detail the exploitation of public office for personal gain,” said Brigitte M. Brennan, acting federal prosecutor.

Johnson has been a councilor since 1980.
