Cleveland-The Cleveland Major League Baseball Team, known as the Indian since 1915, is called the Guardian.

The Ball Club announced a name change on Friday in a Twitter video narrated by actor Tom Hanks, nationwide by institutions and teams to permanently remove the logo and name considered racist. We have finished several months of internal discussions caused by racist calculations.

The Guardian’s choice will undoubtedly be criticized by many of the club’s enthusiastic fans.

The organization has spent most of the past year creating a list of potential names that were close to 1,200 a month ago. However, the process accelerated rapidly and the club landed on the Guardian.

Team owner Paul Dolan said social unrest last summer, inspired by George Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis, spurred his intention to change the name of the ball club.

In 2018, Indians stopped putting the Chief Wahoo logo on their jerseys and caps. However, the team continues to sell products with a smiling red-faced caricature protested by a Native American group for decades.
