On Sunday, he was able to receive the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in his hometown.
“We’ve been waiting for a while and I’m happy to be able to accomplish this today,” he said.
James says Shot will keep his wife safe as well.
“It protects my family, especially my wife,” he said. “Today is the day because she has health problems and we have been trying to accomplish this for her.”
This one-day mass vaccination clinic, coordinated by Rite Aid, is the first type of Coalinga.
Throughout the day, people lined up outside the pharmacy and had the chance to take shots.
City officials say the goal was to vaccinate as many qualified people as possible.
“Anyone who wants it should have access to it, and that’s what we want to do,” says Councilor Ray Singleton.
City councilman Adam Adxon says it is difficult for many residents to be shot.
Only two medical facilities in the city are vaccinated in very limited doses.
Another option is to drive to another clinic a few miles away from the town.
“It’s great to have it here, as our residents drive for two to two and a half hours to go to Fresno to try the vaccine,” Adkisson said. “Round trip, that’s a lot for the inhabitants of Koalinga here.”
City officials say they are currently working on introducing more vaccination clinics in Kodomoyobosesshu. We are also working to secure transportation so that residents can go to clinics in other cities.
