Virginia Beach, Virginia (WAVY) – Coast Guard Cutter Dependable has returned to Virginia Beach.
On Tuesday, July 27, the dependable 29-day patrol of the Northeast Coast of the United States ended.
The Dependable is a 210-foot medium endurance cutter that supports anti-drug, foreign immigrant prevention, fishing, search and rescue, and homeland security missions.
During their latest patrol, the crew boarded more than 15 living marine resources.
“I’m very proud of the dependent crew, especially given the significant portion of the crew who just boarded this summer,” said Cmdr. Dependable commander, Joshua Birch.
Enforcement patrols of live marine resources ensure the sustainability and safety of US fishing and marine conservation species.
The crew also inspected the catch, equipment, and life-saving equipment of federally controlled fishing vessels. This resulted in safety inconsistencies and breaches.
“… We continue to play an important role in maintaining a healthy domestic fishery and fostering important relationships with the maritime community,” Birch said.
