At 8:16 am, Sector Honolulu’s Watch Stander received a report from a Kauai County dispatch about a suffering swimmer. The United States Coast Guard states that the dispatch was notified with the help of excellent Samaritans.
Sector Honolulu observers issued an emergency marine information broadcast to seafarers and launched the RB-M crew accordingly.
Upon arriving at the scene, the RB-M crew found the swimmer and returned it to the shore.
The swimmer was recovered from the water and taken to the shore. No injuries have been reported.
“This case is a good example of how important public vigilance is to search and rescue,” said Petty Officer Third Class Craig Howarth. “Because the beach goers reported the situation, we were able to respond quickly and successfully rescue the swimmer.”
