Charleston, South Carolina (WBTW) —According to the USCG, the Coast Guard crew rescued two people after a 40-foot ship overturned outside North Charleston Pier on Friday.
According to the USCG, the Coast Guard Charleston 45-foot response boat-a medium-sized crew arrived at the scene and saw two men while the ship was submerged.
They were transferred to Charleston Station, where the family waited for their arrival.
At 11:16 pm, Coast Guard guard Charleston received a call from one of the men on the boat that their boat was drinking water and needed assistance.
The two men were not injured.
“Last night’s incident demonstrates the importance of educating boaters and making life jackets readily available, or even worn on board,” said Charleston. Noncommissioned Officer Jason Leeling said. “Men were storing life jackets and couldn’t wear them due to the spike in water in the cabin.”
A commercial towing company is rescuing the ship.
