Michael Humbach cooked in the trunk of his great-grandfather’s 1959 Ford Galaxie Fairlane 500. This is a vehicle called “candy”, decorated to resemble a dining room in the 1950s.

His great-grandfather bought a new car in 1959 and drove it until 1971. After that, Humbach’s father drove the car until 1983 and put it on the block.

“We dropped it here from Idaho in 2000 and fully restored it in 2012,” Humbach said. “Was good.”

Humbach was one of about 200 participants at the 29th Coastal A’s & Rods Fun Run Car Show held at the Atrium Hotel near Leopard Street on Saturday.

"rain," The 1959 Ford Galaxie Fairlane 500 has lived in the family of Michael Humbach (right) for over 60 years. His car was registered for the 29th Coastal A's & Rod's Fun Run Car Show on Saturday, May 28, 2022.

The free event featured classic cars and trucks, food, drinks, T-shirts, local vendors, silent auctions, and prize draws. The presidents of Coastal A’s and Rods Bill Boeker said the proceeds will be donated to local charities, including Purple Door.

“We’ve been doing this for 29 years and it’s still going strong,” Boeker said. “We have children coming here, growing up, bringing our own children and taking them out. It’s great to see the tradition continue.”
