The Coastal Bend coach has established himself as the first black coach in his district.

Travis Fanning is from Atlanta, Georgia, and was an assistant superintendent in Houston before coming to Coastal Bend.

Now, in his second year as Beeville ISD director, Fanning is making history.

Travis Fanning, director of Beeville ISD, said his love and passion for education began when he worked in the math lab at Alabama A & M University.

“So I decided to go ahead and become a math teacher. So I went ahead and changed my major to a math teacher. So I specialize in secondary education. I had a degree in math, so I chose that path, and I haven’t regretted it ever since. ”

As a school district leader, Fanning said he was in the community and believed in giving back.

“I see him in the community. He hosts community meetings and people can discuss issues at community schools,” said Angelica Benavidez, a sixth-grade math and math intervention teacher at Moreno Junior High. You can.; How to improve yourself as a whole, and I think it’s great. ”

Doing this is important for Fanning, who believes to set an example of action.

“I think it’s very important for people to understand that leaders aren’t just the heads of people, they really want to invest in the lives of others and change the course of their communities,” Fanning said.

And he wants to be a model for children who want to pursue a career in educational administration.

“Black leaders grew up, but not as many as assistant directors and directors’ rankings, so it’s important to me to be visible in our community and visible within us. Students can realize their dreams, and can do whatever they come up with, in combination with hard work and with the support of those who have paved the way for them. I can let them know. “

As a director, Fanning said he was a fan of public education for many reasons.

“Public education is one of the few ways to accept all students, no matter how or where they come from. And our goal is to always educate and educate students. It’s a real investment. It has the power to change the course of our state and our country, not just Bee County and Beeville. “

“The goals he achieved have been achieved and he has succeeded for himself. That’s great. Yes, there is black excellence.”

Fanning answers the question of what Black Excellence means to him.

“I believe that black excellence for me is the director of the Beeville Independent School District, representing Coastal Bend and representing the black community. But serving all students, not just the black community. Serving and servicing 3,005 students in Beeville not only to allow me to see the positive things inside me, but also to ignite their potential It will help. “

Fanning holds a PhD in Educational Leadership from Baylor University.
