Denver — In about a week, Colorado was able to better utilize its computer skills by creating tools to help find COVID-19 vaccine reservations across the state.
“I started playing in my free time after work and figured out what was possible. To understand how to get this information from all these pharmacy websites, it’s kind of fun to solve. It was a puzzle, “said Nick. Computer programmer Muerdter.
His final work is “Colorado COVID-19 Vaccine Finder.“”
Muerdter said he had heard complaints from colleagues that it was difficult to find a reservation for the COVID-19 vaccine.
“I was trying to find a vaccine appointment for my mother in the 70+ category, which was a bit confusing,” said colleague Kate Anderson. “Nick knows it’s great to have worked with him for the last few years, but he’s still impressed. I think he ran his first prototype the day after I mentioned it.”
Today, the Muerdter website can get booking information from CVS, Walgreens, and Safeway locations throughout the state. He said his goal was to get more booking information from other pharmacies in the near future.
“The website is still in its infancy,” Muider said.
On Monday, Governor Jared Polis praised Facebook’s website. A spokeswoman issued the following statement:
“The Governor loves innovation and was very excited to see Nick’s work to put multiple vaccine booking opportunities for people over the age of 65 in one convenient location. As many Coloradans as possible. People who promote innovation to be able to vaccinate against are highly valued because this is a full-scale effort. When Coloradans have good ideas, the governor celebrates them, I advertised it. “
The website is to be updated every few minutes with the latest booking status. Muerdter has noticed faster appointments in metropolitan areas.
“They come and go within five minutes,” Muerdter said. “Obviously this doesn’t solve everything, but if it can be one small part, it makes me happy.”
