Denver (AP) — Colorado General Assembly is considering a bill to improve the health of pregnant women in minorities as the United States recognizes Black Lives Matter Week.

Approximately 700 women die each year from pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal complications nationwide.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, black women and indigenous women are about three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women.

The bill passed the Senate Health and Welfare Services on Wednesday. The bill aims to extend Medicaid’s coverage from 60 days to a year, improve racial-based data collection on maternal health, and ensure safe movement between different healthcare facilities. ..
