Colorado Springs — The Colorado Republican chairman said the appointment of an election supervisor in Pueblo County was not sufficient to instill voter confidence ahead of Tuesday’s primary.

Colorado GOP Chair Christie Burton Brown wants Democratic Secretary of State Jena Griswold to replace Pueblo County Secretary and Recorder Gilbert Ortiz in both the first and general elections.

“People need to be confident in the results,” she said. “I think the Pueblo clerk has lost that confidence. In fact, Jena Griswold should replace him.”

Burton Brown also talked about the emergence of partisanship about how quickly she acted to intervene in Mesa and Elbert counties, where Republican secretaries are located, compared to subsequent interventions in Pueblo County. Criticized Grizzwold.

“I think Jena Griswold is a party hack against the Republicans with her office as a weapon. In this case, I’m glad she was under enough pressure to actually do something fair. I think, “Burton Brown said.

In a press release issued Tuesday, Ortiz called his Republican criticism a political motivation, “an attempt to divert attention from criminal acts allegedly committed by other Colorado County clerk.”

Tina Peters, Secretary of State for Mesa County, who is running for Secretary of State, was charged by a grand jury in March with felony and misdemeanor charges related to tampering with voting devices. Griswold banned Peters from overseeing the next election, following a state investigation.

Elbert County Secretary Dallas Schroeder has been accused of copying data from the hard drive of the Dominion Voting Systems.
