(CNN)-Colorado Public Health Officer Empty COVID-19 vaccine vial In honor of her fellow healthcare professionals, she made them a beautiful art.
Laura Weiss told CNN that she was a retired nurse when Boulder County Public Health sought help with vaccination in February.
“I realized that hundreds of empty vaccine vials were wasted. They were really beautiful and I wanted to do something important and meaningful,” said Weiss.
Weiss created a beautiful chandelier with permission to use a glass Moderna vaccine vial.
“For many who like the idea of bringing light to this, I felt it was a very dark and rewarding year, so I wanted to do something with light,” she said.
“Light can express hope and clarity, and I think it could actually broaden our horizons and verify our perspectives.”
The actual idea of making a chandelier came from the purchase of eBay. She found an empty frame online and thought it would be a great ship for her project.
“From a distance … the chandelier looks like a normal chandelier, but when you get closer, it’s actually very different and the perspective changes,” she said.
“We can see something in one direction, and when you approach it or look at it differently, it reminds us that our assumptions can actually be very wrong. increase.”
There is no permanent home in this work yet, but Weiss sees her intention to honor health care workers living in good health and life during a pandemic, wherever they go. He said he wanted people to understand.
“I can’t mention it because there are too many people and professions, but especially these nurses I have just witnessed have passion, skills and care, without rest for hours, hours, days or days. I work tirelessly, and kindness. “
“Why do you say thank you to someone who is doing a lot for others? It’s very exciting.”
But Weiss is now giving back and inspiring others.
Angela Simental, Communications and Marketing Manager for Boulder Public Health, told CNN, “The light of this work of art is very important, because at this point we see the proliferation of Delta variants. And I think we all see this sense of unity. “
“Remind me that by incorporating this light of art, we can protect ourselves and others by being kind to each other and being vaccinated by respecting the efforts of everyone involved. I’m really happy. “
