Colorado Springs, Colorado-Colorado Springs Airport has completed Runway 17R / 35L, a rehabilitation project for West Runway pavement.
Construction began in May 2021 and was completed in September 2021. Milling, paving, grooving, all new LED signs and lights, reflective paints were all part of the project.
“This project was a big logistical task, but it was necessary for airport operations and aircraft safety,” said Brett Miller, assistant director of operations.
The runway was closed for 90 days while the project was completed.
“RS & H and Kiewit have been great partners during this project and have been consistently ahead of schedule throughout the process,” said airport construction manager Steven Gaeta.
Approximately 85,000 tonnes of asphalt was used to repair the runway, more than 20% of which was recycled asphalt.
