Colorado Springs City Council considers allowing carports outside homes – Colorado Springs, Colorado

Colorado Springs — May and June have the highest average hail loss claims.

Christie Adelman from Colorado Springs said:

“My truck has been damaged by a quarter-sized hail, which means I’ll get my money back from insurance, but it won’t cost me to repair it,” said Kenneth Moore from Colorado Springs. Told.

To prevent hail damage, the City of Colorado Springs is considering an ordinance that allows carports in either the front yard or the back yard of a home.

The city currently bans carports, but in January the city council met with a neighboring group who asked the city to reconsider the ban on ports.

“I don’t think it’s a problem. I don’t think it’s a big deal. I think people have the right to protect their cars,” Adelman said.

The city says they don’t have to break them because they plan to work with real estate owners who may already have carports.

Neighborhood Service Manager Mitch Hames said:

“We tried to come up with something that meets safety standards. Make sure these carports are properly seated and provide visibility as the car enters and exits,” said James. Said.

The city states that it is important for people who may have a carport to follow the manufacturer’s specifications.

“We sometimes have really strong winds here, and the last thing you want is a carport that catches and blows the wind. Not only because it’s your investment, but someone else that’s blown away. If you do any damage to your carport, you have some responsibility, “said James.

The ordinance may be approved as early as July 12.
