Colorado Springs Mayor sends-off Olympic athletes headed to Tokyo – Colorado Springs, Colorado

Colorado Springs — Saturday morning, Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers went to Colorado Springs Airport with his wife to help send Team USA members to Tokyo.

The mayor met with athletes, coaches and staff from the US Olympic Wrestling Team. A group of 21 members who have left Colorado Springs will meet with other members of the team in Chicago before boarding their final flight to Japan.

All wrestlers have trained in Colorado Springs at the US Olympic and Paralympic Training Center over the past few months and have local ties to the Pikes Peak region.

  • Adering Ray: 2016 Olympic athlete, 5th World Champion, from Denver and lived in Colorado Springs last year. Wrestlers say her father was a wrestling coach and helped inspire her to pursue a career that many young girls weren’t trying at the time.She will be attended by the 2018 World Silver Medalist Sarah Hildebrandt, 2019 World Champion Jakara Winchester, And 2019 World Champion Tamira Mencer Stockk, lived and trained in Colorado Springs.
  • Sgt.Ilderhafizov And Spc. Alejandro Sancho: Currently stationed in Fort Carson, a soldier athlete in the US Army’s World Class Athletes Program.
  • Gangelo Hancock: Born in Fountain, Colorado for a 97kg Greco-Roman event and graduated from Fountain Fort Carson High School in 2015.
