Community members gathered in Braintree, Massachusetts on Monday night to show support after two police officers were injured and a police dog died in a shootout.

Police officer Matt Donohue and K-9 police officer Bill Cushing were shot several times on Friday in responding to domestic situations. The K-9 kit was shot dead by a suspect.

On Monday, supporters signed a poster and left a card honoring officers and dogs.

“That shouldn’t have happened, but it really happened. Now we need to stand behind them, support them, and do everything we can,” said Linda, a braintree resident.・ Kusa says.

“We are a city that supports police officers. It’s a shame that police officers are being attacked from literally every angle,” said organizer Sean Powers.

Among the supporters on Monday night was a sergeant from the Weimast Police Department. Michael Chesna’s parents. Chezna was shot dead on duty in 2018.

“We don’t come to help the police. No matter what, where, who, no matter how far we go, we go,” said Mimi Chesna. “This was a real hit.”

“They do a lot for us, but no one appreciates it,” said Chuck Chesna. “We must respect and appreciate them more.”

Kitt’s service is not yet planned. Braintree police say Cushing is waiting to leave the hospital.
