Colorado Springs — Local nonprofits want to make major changes to the downtown Colorado Auditorium. The group presented the plan to El Paso County Commissioner on Tuesday.
“This is a legacy project for all of us,” said Linda Wise, president and chief executive officer of the city’s auditorium community cultural group. It may be a generation that hasn’t received much attention. “
Wise is the founder of the Colorado Springs Conservatory, providing art education to students in southern Colorado.
Plans under construction will preserve historic buildings and expand the historic stage, flexible venues facing the proscenium, and community gatherings.
The hope is to prepare the building, which is almost 100 years old, for the future as the region continues to grow.
“We want to create a true community culture hub, which will give us access to art and culture as a community of people across the region,” Wise said. I am.
Discussions are taking place between the city and nonprofits to take ownership of the building. This will allow the building to be subject to a specific tax credit on the cost of the project.
