ELK GROVE (CBS13) – A 14-year-old boy was killed on Saturday after hitting a car while crossing a busy road in Elk Grove.
Neighbors in the area spoke to CBS13 after a tragic accident and told them what they had to say about the safety of the road.
“To be honest with you, I teach in this area, so it was like praying that I didn’t know the students right away,” he said, often walking and biking on the road. Said Matthew Bauer, a local teacher who visited the area.
Young and old are visiting the median of the crash site to pay homage to the boy, leaving behind flowers and candles. The Elk Grove Unified School District has confirmed that he is a student in the school district.
“It’s a tragedy,” Tim said.
Elk Grove police said the teen was at the White Rock pedestrian crossing when he was beaten. But at this point, the cross signal doesn’t seem to be working.
Police also said the driver had been contacted on-site and worked with investigators.
“If they’re stuck and caring, it’s telling a lot about someone,” Bauer said. “Maybe it was a really unfortunate situation for both. Everyone was really involved.”
Some hope that this is a reminder that everyone pays attention to the road.
“Hopefully, it will raise the subsequent awareness of people on this particular road, as well as others nearby, such as schools and parks,” Tim said.
