Nashville, Tennessee (WKRN) — The West Nashville organization is angry with the city of Nashville over its response to the homeless population of Brookmeade Park. The city has closed the Charlotte Pike park, but people have tents throughout the park.

This group is called Reclaim Brookmeade Park, created this summer. Since then, they have gained more than 1000 members living in the community.

“We are unfortunately a group of local citizens fighting the city for our park,” said founder Rebecca Rowe. “I want you to stop looking like a three-wheeled circus and come and see it.”

Rowe told News 2 that the problem has been going on since he first moved to the area 15 years ago.

Some of the members shared personal stories about how drugs plague the park and how some people leave the park with drugs and travel around the area. ..

“The city needs to do better and tackle this issue,” said large-scale Sharon Hart, a Nashville city council member. “We can do better than allow this to happen in the city.”

According to the Nashville Rescue Mission, it is important to support outreach organizations that are building trust within the homeless community. Once that trust is established, people are more likely to go to shelters and accept help.

Brookmead Park leaders say they will continue to fight for their park. For more information on the organization click here..
