Thousands of cyclists gather around the American Bank Center. Some people pump air into the tires, while others practice on ocean drives. Everyone is preparing to ride a bike around the coastal bend.
Conquering the coast is riding a bike where cyclists have one of three options: a 66-mile, 21-mile or 10-mile loop around the coastal bend.
“In Texas, people love this ride because there are no other rides that can cross major bodies of water in Texas. The rides along the island are special,” said Ginny Cross, Vice President of the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce. People love it. “
The 66-mile loop goes up the Harbor Bridge, bikes to the Port Aranthus Ferry, down Mustang Island and the JFK Causeway, and the last 10 miles down to Ocean Drive.
Riders came from all over Texas, and from places like Tennessee, Kansas, and Colorado.
“I’ve always been impressed with the variety of riders. I asked men in the 70’s and 80’s to do these rides and families with children,” says Cross.
