According to the Texas Department of Transportation, work at the JFK Causeway will be delayed due to the lack of materials needed to set new traffic patterns on the bridge.
In a statement, TxDOT stated that it is working with contractors to establish a new state date for bridge maintenance projects.
The $ 8.7 million 19-month JFK Bridge project is scheduled to begin in the first week of December, with a concrete barricade set for the final week of November. Traffic will be restricted until the end of Phase 1 of May.
Work that requires lane reduction is done only on bridges that straddle the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, not the entire Causeway.
The bridge will be completely closed for 30 minutes from 10 pm to 4 am as needed. There will be no lane closures at the May Beach to Bay Marathon.
Phase 2 of the project will begin in June 2022 and end in November 2022. Phase 3 begins in December 2022 and ends around 2023.
The project was initially planned to be completed by May 2023.
