Boston (WHDH)-A sex offender convicted of killing a woman in Boston over 30 years ago will be prosecuted on Tuesday.

Richard Vega, a 59-year-old convicted sex offender currently being committed under the law of a sexually dangerous person in Massachusetts, was associated with Judy Chamberlain’s death in Suffolk on July 28, 1988. According to DA’s office, Chamberlain was found strangled in the basement of the former Fargo Building on 451D Street.

Biological evidence collected reportedly indicated that she had been sexually assaulted by the murderer.

DNA samples collected during the initial study were submitted to the FBI’s Combined DNA Indexing System. This system compares samples from unknown perpetrators with the DNA profiles of known criminals.

According to DA’s office, Safolk prosecutors and detectives assigned to the Boston police murder unit identified Vega as a suspect in 2011 when the CODIS database matched the murder suspect’s DNA with Vega’s DNA profile. bottom.

Vega, accompanied by Karl Vega, Ricardo Vega, and Ricardo Mazzerino, was convicted in 1990 of three counts of rape in connection with an attack on an elderly woman in Libya in 1987, resulting in DNA. I was asked to submit a sample.

He was sentenced to 19.5 to 20 years in state prison for these charges.

As his release from imprisonment approached, Suffolk prosecutors petitioned Vega to publicly commit under state SDP law. The jury determined that he was sexually dangerous in 2008 and he continues to openly commit.

The Chamberlain murder case was reviewed through Lorin’s unresolved Suffolk murder project, and the additional evidence needed to present the case to a grand jury in Suffolk County was gathered.

On August 30, the grand jury returned an indictment indicting Vega for murder.
