North Port, Florida — Florida police searched for 23-year-old Brian Laundry in a vast wildlife sanctuary near the Gulf, interested in the disappearance of his girlfriend Gabriel “Gabby” Petit.
On Saturday, dozens of North Port police officers, FBI agents, and other law enforcement members searched the 24,000-acre Carlton Reserve in the Sarasota area of Florida.
His family believes he entered the area earlier this week.
Laundrie and Petito set out in July for cross-country trekking in a modified van to visit a national park in the western United States.
Police encountered both a laundromat and Petit on August 12, in Moab, Utah, after bystanders witnessed a couple fighting at a convenience store. Police did not prosecute after the two agreed to spend the night in different places.
Petit’s mother reports that she last talked to her daughter on August 25, in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.
Police say Laundry was alone when he returned the van to his parents’ home on September 1.
Police are still pursuing the case as a missing person case. There is no charge.
