Wichita, Kang (KSNW) – You may know cornholes from the backyard It’s barbecue and tailgate, but for some groups it’s not the only one.

It is called Bagin 4 Veteran. When you step into the American Legion 256 post office, the bag that hits the board is the sound you hear two days a week, both Monday and Friday.

Initially, the group joined and hosted several matches, which soon disappeared.

Fortunately, founders Bobby Bates, Ron West, and Anna West learned to run the tournament and decided not to put their ideas in the bag.

Since then, the three have gone all-in.

“The momentum is growing rapidly and it was a lot of fun,” said Bobby Bates.

They held a Facebook event to raise money for the American Legion post.

Now it has grown. They expanded it to other posts within two years and worked with prominent organizations to raise funds.

So far, the group has helped Kansas Honor Flight, Navy Seal Foundation, Forgotton 22, and several other organizations raise thousands of dollars by hosting these events.

“Retired veterans and current veterans still need our help. They need to admit what they are doing and have to repay,” said West. ..

“That’s the beggar for veterans. We beg as much as we can and try to give back as much as we can,” says Bates. “Everyone who supports it touches me every time.”

The founders remember many reasons why they continue to raise money. Ron West remembers one veteran from Pearl Harbor. His face brightened when he entered and looked at the board.

“The way he lit up, the way someone remembers and recognizes,” West said. “It made me feel good, and it was the most proud moment I’ve had since I did this.”

Not only that, local veterinarians in need of a helping hand left their mark on West’s life.

“We had a gentleman come and play music, which was unlucky for him. He was a Marine veteran,” West said. “We had him play music here to get hints, and the people in Cornhole really took care of him, and we gave him socks and food for his dog. I was able to buy it. “

Now that it is officially an independent business, it has expanded to more events. They want to host more tournaments at weddings, graduation ceremonies, or events around the community, and all money is returned to those who have sacrificed their lives for this country.

“It’s good to be kind to veterans, hug them, and help them when needed,” says Bates.

These matches at the American Legion are held twice a week and are open to anyone.

Their big goal is to diverge across the state and eventually build a place to host even bigger competitions.
