While Europe is preparing hurriedly for a possible second wave of covid-19 infections, South America is yet to see the end of the first.

Four months since governments began national lockdowns in March, the spread of covid-19 shows “no signs of slowing down” across the Americas, said Carissa Etienne, director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in a press briefing last month.
