Coronavirus relief package finally signed; local impact on evictions still unclear – Omaha, Nebraska

Omaha, Nebraska (KMTV) —President Donald Trump waited a few days and threatened a veto that could lead to a government closure, but eventually with a $ 900 billion coronavirus rescue on Sunday night. Signed a government funding package.

This extends the CDC Moratorium on Evacuation by one month, provides financial relief to real estate owners, and includes payments of $ 600 to qualified Americans.

“Many people’s leases are nearing the end,” said Scott Meltz of legal aid Nebraska. “Many people have monthly leases, so you can’t get unreasonable notices or failure notices to terminate these leases unless you get noticed 30 days in advance.”

Mr. Meltz wants the landlord to prioritize relief over eviction because the latest bill allows landlords to get relief.

Nothing has been announced from the bill when local governments will be able to use the funds.

The bill was signed after the CARES law unemployment allowance expired on Saturday. The Nebraska Ministry of Labor said it was waiting for guidance from the US Department of Labor on how to implement the extension, but listed these details on some program extensions.
