According to Beard, they have provided these services throughout the week during National Child Passenger Seat Safety Week, supporting more than 200 families.
Corpus Christi, Texas — This week is National Child Seat Safety Week, and the Driscoll Health System has provided child seat inspections in both Weslaco and Corpus Christi.
The event was held at the Doris Col Children Health Business Center near Ayers and Gorihar.
During the event, a certified child seat safety engineer helped parents check their child seats for free.
Injury prevention coordinator Karen Beard wants individuals to understand the importance of proper protection of their children.
“Four out of five people have the child seats installed incorrectly, so our job here is to determine if the child seats are installed correctly, if the child fits properly, and if the child seat is suitable for the child. It’s about investigating, “says Beard.
They also checked recalls, adjustments, and hot car device installations, and sent alerts to remind parents about the baby in the backseat of the car, Beard said.
An average of 39 children are killed every year across the United States after being left alone in a hot car.
Tiffany Livas, the mother of two children under the age of two, said this was her second testing event.
“I think that’s all we can control in today’s world. This is what we can control and to make our children as safe as possible. That’s why I and my husband. Got both here. Our car is complete, “Livas said.
According to Beard, they have provided these services throughout the week during Children’s Passenger Seat Safety Week across the country, supporting more than 200 families.
“The turnout is great, and it’s a year-round service at the Doris Col Children’s Office. If you’re worried about COVID, we’ll also virtualize it,” says Beard.
In addition, according to Beard, if you have a parent or guardian who needs a child seat, they can help you get one.
