The Corpus Christi Channel South Jetty of Aranzas Pass will be closed on April 12 for repairs of Hurricane Harvey.
The pier will reopen on May 31st, the Memorial Day weekend. According to the district news release, the US Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will replace the concrete cap section of the pier.
South Jetty will be closed from the edge of the beach to the public access area.
The goal is to complete the work before the Memorial Day weekend, said Belinda Kinman, operations manager for the navigation branch in the Galveston district.
“But we wanted to inform the public about this closure to help vacationers traveling to the Corpus Christi / Port Aranthus area plan for the Memorial Day weekend,” she said. It was. Late, we hope to get the job done in time for the holiday weekend. “
The pier was damaged when Hurricane Harvey landed as a Category 4 storm in August 2017.
As more work begins on the South Pier, more closures can occur as needed.
The overall completion date for repairs on both piers is expected to be around January 7, 2022.
