Corpus Christi, Texas – At today’s regular business meeting, the Corpus Christi City Council approved the purchase of an additional Internally Lighted Street Name (ILSN) sign. The purchase fund of $ 82,150 is included in the 2022 adoption budget.
The Office of Public Works is pursuing initiatives to improve the safety of all signalized intersections in the city. One way to achieve this goal is to enhance night visibility and road sign lighting.
“Improved nighttime traffic safety with illuminated road signs improves visibility and readability at different distances and conditions, allowing drivers to spend more time at intersections,” Paulette M. Mayor Guajardo said. “These benefits are especially valuable at large and large intersections and tourist destinations visited by a significant number of drivers,” she added.
The city removes or replaces existing signs each year. After this initiative, a total of 131 of the 252 signalized intersections will be lit. With the approval of this project, a total of 59 additional LED signs will be installed at 15 signalized intersections. Twelve of the 15 intersections will receive illuminated road signs for the first time.
The installation of this ILSN is one of several safety enhancement projects in the city’s Vision Zero program. The City’s Vision Zero program is an effort to make our community a safer place to live and play. For more information on Vision Zero, please visit: https://www.cctexas.com/visionzero..
