Council Bluffs, Iowa. (KMTV)-Council Bluffs School has been celebrating Senior Signature Day for 10 years, but the pandemic stopped the opportunity last year. That’s why this year’s celebration is different.
“Our students have lost a lot in the last few years. Everyone has lost, but one thing I think is really important is that these setbacks do not adversely affect their overall future. That’s it, “said Principal Dania Freudenburg.
Freudenburg said it was important to give children shining time — during tough times.
“They have so many opportunities in front of them and we are here to support them,” Freudenburg said.
Senior Abbey Tag couldn’t get any more excited. She went to the University of Northern Iowa to study criminal justice and welfare services.
“Since I was little, it has always been my dream,” Tag said. “Mom and dad always took us to see firefighters and police officers and just clicked on something. I’ve wanted to do that since I was young.
Tag said that celebrating the next step in this public way would make it much sweeter.
“Because we’re crazy about COVID, we were all very hesitant to experience towards the end of the year … up and down all year long. Who knows what will happen. “I will.” Tag said.
Principal Freudenburg firmly believes that this pandemic task will give students the grit and resilience they need to succeed.
“Someday they will look back on these years, and they will,’Do you remember 2020, and how crazy it was?” How much did they grow in the meantime? You will see how it has changed, and what you have learned from it. “
250 students attended the ceremony at Thomas Jefferson High School and Abraham Lincoln High School.
