Tucson, Arizona (KGUN) — Pima County Fleet Service needs volunteer drivers to assist in the transportation of asylum seekers around Tucson.
In a Facebook post, the county said it would provide vans and sedans to those interested in helping. Personal protective equipment will also be provided in case the passenger is COVID positive.
Volunteers must have a valid Arizona driver’s license.
According to the post, hundreds of migrants seeking asylum are brought to Tucson every week, overwhelming the organization.
“Without the willingness of hundreds of selfless volunteers in Tucson and the limited support of Pima County and the city of Tucson, these migrants have few resources to reach their destinations and throw them away in Tucson. It will remain as it is, “said the county. “Pima County is committed to protecting these asylum seekers from harm, deterioration and weather and helping them continue their journey to a better and more peaceful life.”
