Cow tries to cross U.S. 36 outside Boulder looking for calf – Denver, Colorado

A cow away from the calf escaped from the pen three times and was eventually caught up in US 36 on the outskirts of Boulder, but officials said she was safely enclosed and reunited.
Philip Yates, a spokesman for Boulder Open Space and Mountain Park, said cows tried to cross US36, just west of Cherry Veil, around 6:30 pm on Wednesday.
According to Yeats, the incident began when the cow left the calf and tried to find it and get out of the pen. According to Yeats, the open space ranger helped keep the cows in the fence when they were forced out of the fence twice, but came across the US36 a third time.
According to Yeats, the rancher took the cow off the freeway and surrounded her the night before the cow and driver were injured.
According to Yeats, the rancher told Boulder officials that he was working to move the cows to reunite them with the calves.
“Cow leaving the fencing pen can occur in Boulder’s agricultural areas,” Yates said. “They are big and fast animals, and if they are determined to get out of their enclosure, they can do it.”
