Virginia Beach, Virginia (WAVY) —Cole Johnson, alum at Cox High School, was selected as the Offense Player of the Year for the Colonial Athletic Association after a record-breaking season at the heart of James Madison football.
Duke’s quarterback, Walter Payton Awards in progress, Leaded CAA in passyard per game (268.5), pass touchdown (32), completion rate (68.1%), total attack (285.18), pass efficiency rating (170.37).
He had only two intercepts compared to 32 pass touchdowns and was 233-of-342 on a 2,953 yard pass. He also made five team high fives on the ground running 184 yards.
The 32 pass touchdowns this season set a record for the JMU single season. Johnson also defeated Elon 45-21 and set a school record with six touchdown passes. He beat Towson 56-10 at home last week, scoring 363 yards at 21/25.
JMU Kicker’s Ethan Ratke was also named the CAA Special Team Player of the Year after breaking all NCAA division records with a career field goal (100) and a kicker score (525).
Several other JMU players have also been named All-CAA, including Norfolk linebacker Diamonte Tucker Dorsey.
Dukes, who will move to the FBS and Sun Belt Conference, is the third seed of the FCS playoffs to date. They will face the winners of the Southeastern Louisiana and Florida A & M on Saturday, December 4th, in the second round.
