Grand Island, Nebraska (AP) — Firefighters were still fighting flames at a meat packaging plant on Grand Island, 12 hours after their first arrival at the scene on Monday morning. Captain Scott Kühl said the crew was first called to the JBS factory just before 10 pm on Sunday and arrived to find the flames in the factory’s rendering area.
Firefighters stayed in the factory all night long until late Monday morning, as the fire spread to hidden areas within the factory ceiling and walls, resulting in a six-alarm fire. No injuries have been reported.
The fire interrupted work at the factory and workers were told not to commute on Monday.
According to the authorities, the cause of the fire is still unknown.
