Nashville, Tennessee (WKRN) — A week ago, a large flood at Whitfield Park in South Nashville damaged several small league fields.
They belong to the Women’s Softball League in Cleeve Hall and are on hold this season.
Volunteer director Steve Cerico says the water has damaged special stains on equipment, fences, shops and fields. In total? Approximately $ 50,000 for repairs.
“We had about four feet of water on the ground,” Cherico said. “Obviously, having to push the season back again brings some memories from last year, so I had a lot of questions. Are you going to play? Is this? Will you go out again?”
Cerico said the players lost almost the entire season last year due to the pandemic, so he decided to bring the girl back to diamonds.
Eight-year-old Copelyn Carlson and her dad hope to help clear up some of the damage this weekend and allow practice and games to resume soon.
“It’s very active and I can meet friends from the softball team,” Carlson said.
